IT WAS NEVER ABOUT THAT

The canvas breathes a desolate, charged silence.

This is not merely a scene; it is the residue of a profound reckoning. Titled "It was never about that," the piece is a study in emotional withdrawal and the stark clarity that follows a final, devastating realization.

The palette is a whisper of an ending—the deep, bruised slate-grey and cerulean gloom of the upper expanse presses down like a heavy, inescapable truth. It is the colour of the sea after a storm has passed, leaving only the wreckage and the cold, flat horizon.

Yet, from the depths of this despair, a searing, incandescent light tears through. Bands of scorched umber, fiery rust, and vibrant, electric tangerine blaze across the middle ground. These are not reflections of a sunset, but the ghosts of intense, agonizing emotion: the desperate, final burst of a passion that consumed itself; the burning memory of the conflict that led to this quiet devastation.

They hover, suspended and shimmering, above a smooth, dark plane—a mirror reflecting nothing but the cold certainty of the sky above. This plane is the dividing line, the emotional chasm crossed at the moment of the titular realization. The vibrant, painful energy is trapped on the far side, forever separated from the subdued clarity of the foreground.

"It was never about that" captures the moment when the central delusion—the fight, the goal, the fixation—is finally stripped away, revealing the unadorned, chilling space left behind. It’s the breath held after a door slams shut, the sudden, terrible peace of knowing the battle is over, and the realization that the thing you were fighting for was an illusion all along. The beauty here is tragic: a lonely, luminous scar on the heart of the void.
